He will take you to a variety of locations and immersive experiences, including those where some of his most iconic images were taken. On every excursion, Ken and his experienced and attentive team will be on hand to assist you and answer all your questions, ensuring you capture outstanding images.

You will capture the early morning horse muster at Glenworth Valley as the herd thunders through the creek; you will visit Somersby Falls to photograph the water cascading over rocks in tranquil bushland; you will enjoy the pre-dawn stillness of peaceful beaches as you set up to capture sunrise.

And for the first time ever, you will have the opportunity to photograph whales on our private Whale Watching tour!

Plus so much more!

Bootcamp Plan

Coastal Exposure will give you techniques and experience in a variety of photographic styles and settings. You will be shooting on and off tripod, with and without movement, star shots, sunrises, sunsets and during the day, in a variety of situations. You will have the opportunity to shoot a wide range of subjects, which will compound and diversify your skill set.

If you have a drone, bring it along. There will be opportunities to fly over some gorgeous locations and one of our instructors is a professional drone photographer. However, please note, the majority of Ken’s instruction and information will be on land-based photography.

Your Coastal Exposure experience starts with a detailed session on photo editing and the use of Capture One software.  The knowledge you gain in that first session will be reinforced in subsequent classroom sessions as you practice editing and processing your own images.  You will also learn the basics of digital file management so you can confidently file, catalogue and select your best images for printing or sharing in the future. Plus you’ll learn how to output your image files to suit a variety of applications.

The much-loved finale to every Coastal Exposure Workshop is enjoying dinner together on your last evening with the group, and watching a slide show of over 100 photos taken by you and your fellow participants.

You will receive the entire presentation from your Coastal Exposure experience – along with important information and valuable resources – on a USB drive you can keep and refer back to whenever you feel like it.

  • After arriving at the opulent Crowne Plaza Terrigal, you will leave your luggage with the concierge and make your way to the Hawkesbury Lobby on Level 1 by 9am for registration. Ken and his team will greet you and be available to answer questions. They will also run through your camera equipment with you, before your first classroom session. After a light lunch, Ken will explain camera settings and exposure and give you an introduction to Capture One software. You will have the opportunity to check into your room in the afternoon, before boarding the bus for your first on-location shoot at Somersby Falls. You will return to Crowne Plaza for dinner in the Wamberal Room. During dinner, Ken will provide an overview of the locations you will visit over the next few days, plus tips on composition and settings.

  • This morning you will take a short walk to the Skillion at Terrigal for sunrise photography, then return to the hotel for breakfast. After breakfast you will have your first classroom session of the day – uploading your images from yesterday and this morning, then starting to process them in Capture One. Then you will have a scrumptious lunch in Sea Salt Restaurant, before collecting your packed afternoon tea and boarding the bus for a trip to The Entrance and Long Jetty. After photographing the local pelican feed, you will have some time to explore The Entrance before heading to Long Jetty for sunset photography and a light picnic dinner. Then it’s back to the hotel.

  • An early start today to visit Glenworth Valley and experience the daily horse muster, as you photograph the herd thundering through the creek in the early morning light. Then there will be time to visit the stabling yards to photograph some of the horses as they are prepared for the day’s riding activities. You will enjoy a hearty breakfast on the conference centre veranda before returning to the hotel to continue with your image review and selection. The afternoon consists of more classroom sessions before an optional Whale Watching tour. If you choose not to go whale watching, you will be able to photograph around Terrigal, including the rock pool and The Haven. Dinner tonight will be at Kew Dining, at the Ken Duncan Gallery, followed by one of Ken’s spectacular audio-visual presentations. You will return to the hotel for a well-earned sleep.

  • This morning you’ll travel by bus to Norah Head lighthouse for sunrise photography, then return to the hotel for breakfast. During your classroom sessions this morning, you will make your final selection for the group slideshow tonight, and choose the image for your free 20” print. This afternoon’s classroom sessions will cover presentation and marketing of your work. After that, we’ll wrap up with a Q&A session before giving you some free time to enjoy the local attractions - or put your feet up for a while. Tonight, you’ll enjoy a group farewell dinner for participants and paid partners, with an exciting slideshow of images taken by you and your fellow Boot Camp participants.

  • This morning you can either sleep in, or take advantage of an optional sunrise shoot at the Skillion or Terrigal Lagoon before returning to the hotel for breakfast and check out. Then it’s time to say farewell to newfound friends at the end of your Coastal Exposure adventure.
